Twitter can be a constant source of side-splitting, head-desking entertainment, if you know where to look. This past week, after the release of the newest collaboration between Kanye West and Sir Paul McCartney, one had to look no further than West’s fan base.

They did not disappoint, sending forth epically stupid tweets like “OMG, Kanye boutta make this Paul McCartney’s career blow up,” and “I don’t know who Paul McCartney is, but Kanye just made his career!”

Of course, those who knew better responded in equal measure of hilarity – and speed. Within a few hours, it was difficult to tell the fans who were blissfully unaware of the former Beatle’s existence from the shocked but culturally literate folks poking fun at them.

The whole situation reminded me of a friend who spent his Saturdays in high school working at the now defunct Streetside Records. He was at the counter one afternoon when a teen walked in and handed him a Wings album.

“I really love this band,” he said, “but especially the singer. Do you know if Paul McCartney did anything before Wings?”

Not since a “journalist” tweeted pictures of earplugs and asked if they were rubber bullets have I laughed this hard.

Thanks, Twitter. You’ve set the 2015 bar pretty high.
