While the world watches the CDC bungle the handling of the first Ebola case(s?) in the United States, the news media provides cover fire while departing Attorney General flies one last middle finger at the American public.

Back in July, Federal Judge John Bates ordered Holder and the Department of Justice to release what is called the Vaughan Index in regards to Fast and Furious by October 1, 2014. The Vaughan Index is simply a list of the documents that are being withheld under the umbrella of “privilege,” along with the legal exemption and specific damages that may result from those documents being disclosed. So Holder is not even being asked to present documents that might incriminate himself or the President – rather, he is being asked to explain which documents he won't be presenting and why.

In a move that sadly likely shocks no one, that deadline has passed with only one acknowledgement from Holder's DOJ: a request for more time – specifically, until November 3. If that date sounds familiar, it should. November 3 is the day before the midterm elections, a coincidence that cannot be ignored. One has to wonder why, if the events in question happened four years ago, the Justice Department couldn't even be bothered to present a list of reasons that some of the relevant documents would not be presented. One also has to wonder what is in those documents that warrants Holder taking such care to ensure that no one sees anything before the midterms.

Several Congressmen have called for a second contempt hearing for Holder in the wake of his failure to meet Judge Bates' deadline.

At the end of the day, Holder's refusal to obey the order of a federal judge only reminds us that the only thing in the Obama Administration more abundant than scandal and arrogance is lawlessness.
