Moments ago during the daily White House Coronavirus Task Force, Dr. Fauci was forced to take time away from addressing the pandemic to addressing egregious media bias. For backstory: Fauci was asked an odd hypothetical during an interview Sunday: “You could logically say that if you had a process that was ongoing and you started mitigation earlier, you could have saved lives.” Jake Tapper essentially asked Fauci that if he could have saved lives earlier, would he have done so? The query begs the question one of two ways: it assumes that Fauci himself was somehow prevented from acting swiftly because either Trump failed to act (even when imposing a moratorium on flights to and from virus hotspot areas back in January for which he was promptly called a “racist”) or, truthfully, China refused to share critical data which prevented the United States and every other country in the world from swiftly moving to blunt the effects of this pandemic. Typically the latter is omitted in favor of the former. The premise of the question assumes that Trump failed and people died, but Tapper just doesn’t state it. Fauci sets this straight right off the bat:

Fauci was clearly displeased at having to again correct egregious bias. Check the glare (h/t Brett):

It’s insane that Fauci, the doctor so many in media say they adore but betray by attributing statements to him that he didn’t make, has to baby-step his remarks to these same people. That Fauci has to correct egregious media bias during a press conference on a pandemic is bonkers. Fauci has disagreed with and criticized the press more than he has ever disagreed with Trump on strategy. At some point it will become clear to them that this dog doesn’t hunt. Maybe at some point the reporters attending these pressers will ask questions that serve the public, not their, the reporters’s, ideological interests and narratives.

*To add:

This is how CBS chooses to frame the spectacle that was the press having a meltdown:

Trump discussed the biased way the press covered his earlier actions (example A and example B) which was met with contempt by the reporters present.
