Today President Obama said that gun control would be his focus during his final year in office:

Asked by interviewer Bill Simmons of HBO if gun control will be the “dominant” issue on his agenda next year, Mr. Obama replied, “I hope so.”

Also today Democrats launched a new talking point in their war on the Second Amendment, invoking fear of Syrian refugees to push gun control. First up, the Houston Chronicle with this idiotic, misleading headline.

A state lawmaker from suburban Austin has floated a new reason why Syrian refugees should not be resettled to the Lone Star States: Texas' accessible gun-purchase laws.

In a two-page letter to U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, Rep. Tony Dale, R-Cedar Park, said the resettlement program should be stopped because “there is no doubt” that the radical Islamic terrorists that carried out last Friday's Paris massacre will strike on U.S. soil.

And if they are resettled in Texas, they will be given a Texas drivers license, which will allow them to get jobs at federal facilities and get access to American airports.

“Can you imagine a scenario where a refugee is admitted to the United States, is provided federal cash payments and other assistance, obtains a drivers license and purchases a weapon and executes an attack?” Dale wrote.

The problem isn't the Second Amendment and the law-abiding's ability to purchase firearms, it's that the party supported by the Chronicle wants to give unvetted “refugees” driver's licenses and social security cards. They are enabling them, the law-abiding are not. Of course the Zima drinkers at the Chronicle take this to mean that gun laws are lax as opposed to the lax manner in which they want to distribute legal docs to unvetted foreigners

Next, Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy, who said “if a Syrian can't come to U.S. without a background check, why do we sell guns without background checks?” Nevermind the Brady Law which has mandated federal background checks since the Clinton era.

Democrats have insisted that these refugees are nothing more than a bunch of three year-olds, so I'm not sure why they're concerned about toddlers buying guns. In reality the United Nations says that 72% of the refugees are men, barely half are actually from Syria (only 4 out of 5), and very few of the thousands accommodated thus far by the US are actually Christian.

The argument they're growing now dictates that if you fear resettlement of unvetted refugees then you should want to ban firearms so Democrat can give refugees driver's licenses and social security cards without taking responsibility for what enabling unvetted refugees may do to American safety. Their push and the timing of Obama's admission isn't a coincidence. It's organized.
