Earlier today former NYC mayor and head of the gun control lobby, Michael Bloomberg, used Aurora Colorado as the backdrop for his presidential gun control policy: a permit system to access Second Amendment Rights.
Bloomberg announces he wants a nationwide permit for people to obtain before being able to buy a gun: "I know critics will say that Americans shouldn't need a permit to exercise their constitutional rights, but voting is a constitutional right and we require people to register." pic.twitter.com/NCTpaIeCKb

The same party that condemns voter ID requirements for participating in a privilege managed by states demands an ID to exercise an explicit right affirmed by the Constitution. (Constitution bars discrimination and establishes other accesses but doesn’t explicitly establish it as a right through the federal level rather it’s managed by states via Article 1 Section 4 — though some argue that SCOTUS affirms it as a right with Dunn v. Blumstein.) Are we to also demand permits to practice free speech?
I would love for Bloomberg to explain how repeat offenders, the ones driving the crime rate for which the law-abiding are blamed, will follow this law. It’s a clumsy way to establish a national registry and restrict rights.
