I’m really looking forward to the fecal storm of hot takes on the Trump vs Kemp portion of tonight’s presser, especially since nuance is dead. Here’s the video of Trump talking about Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s decision to reopen according to the guidance of Dr. Kathleen Toomey. “I told the Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, that I disagree, strongly, with his decision to open certain facilities which are in violation of the Phase One guidelines … but at the same time he must do with what he thinks is right.” Kemp added his thoughts via Twitter.

The left is having a field day with this already and a few on the right are too, because they’ve adopted the brain-dead practice of eliminating nuance from any context. A few days ago Trump Tweeted to “LIBERATE” a number of states and the new narrative tonight is that he wants to liberate the states but yet criticizes Kemp for moving towards a Phase One. Trump didn’t disagree with Kemp for moving into Phase One, Trump said there were certain facilities that in violation of the Phase One guidelines that he thinks should wait until they satisfy the criteria (salons, tattoo parlors, etc). Though I disagree with that position, I understand it — and Trump understands Kemp’s position, which is why he added (although widely ignored by the press) that he believes governors must do what they think is right. If the latest IHME model is accurate, it shows Georgia on the other side of the virus peak in June. I’ll be frank: Anyone who thinks people are going to wait until June to reclaim their livelihoods, I have some bridges to sell them. There MUST be a compromise of strategy, period. Trump is listening to medical experts — and so is Kemp, who has amongst his medical counsel the highly acclaimed Dr. Kathleen Toomey.

When Democrats disagree with each other, the media ignores it, but when Republicans disagree, all hell breaks loose in the press, eager for any crack in party unity. Here’s the thing: You can disagree and still have party unity. This isn’t a Trump vs Kemp battle — but the media wants it to be, they need a replacement after failing to invoke a Trump vs Fauci battle. They shifted to the CDC’s Redfield vs Trump, but that fizzled out during the presser when Redfield took to the podium to correct some of the hyperbolic headlines which he said mischaracterize his remarks on a potential second wave of the virus during flu season. So now the media must find another challenger they can use to pit against Trump against the backdrop of this pandemic. Keep in mind: Colorado Governor Jared Polis’s plan is virtually identical to Georgia’s, but he’s a Democrat, so there has been zero criticism of his approach.
