Robert Gibbs, David Axelrod, quick! Slam CNN like you did Rasmussen! The latest from CNN:

Washington (CNN) – Nearly three out of four Americans think that at least half of the money spent in the federal stimulus plan has been wasted, according to a new national poll.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday morning also indicates that 63 percent of the public feels that projects in the plan were included for purely political reasons and will have no economic benefit, with 36 percent saying those projects will benefit the economy.

Well that’s understandable. The White House can’t even give consistent numbers on how many jobs they did not saved or created with the program. You mean the 10% unemployment rate just THIS year? These jobs? Wasted money … you mean the $6.4 billion that went to phantom districts?

According to a CNN poll released Sunday, 56 percent of the public opposes the stimulus, with 42 percent supportive of the plan. Last March, just weeks after the stimulus bill was signed into law by President Barack Obama, a CNN survey indicated that 54 percent supported the program, with 44 percent opposed.

People stopped supporting it when they saw the pork:

There’s $1 billion for Amtrak, the federal railroad that hasn’t turned a profit in 40 years; $2 billion for child-care subsidies; $50 million for that great engine of job creation, the National Endowment for the Arts … $400 million for global-warming research and another $2.4 billion for carbon-capture demonstration projects.

Yes, the NEA that was discovered to be using the Office of Public Engagement and your tax dollars to turn art into propaganda, or how about the Serve.gov site being used to funnel volunteers to ACORN?

Oh, there’s more!

Senator Max Baucus got $26 billion for private equity companies—the vultures that buy companies, load them up with debt, collect exorbitant fees, and then try to sell them to the unsuspecting public.

Senator Robert Byrd is getting $4.6 billion for clean coal. “Clean, carbon-neutral coal can be a ‘green’ energy,” Byrd said.

And even more:

The Wall Street Journal highlights another outrageous piece of pork in the Stimulus bill”

Such as the amendment to Section 2(3)(F) of the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, which will permit payments to guys employed to repair “recreational vessels.” Under Incentives for New Jobs, we find a credit to employ what the bill calls “disconnected youths,” defined as “not readily employable by reason of lacking a sufficient number of basic skills.”

In other words, people will be paid with tax dollars to repair other people’s recreational boats (yachts?) and people who lack basic skills and are thus not “readily employable” will be paid with taxpayer dollars.

Don’t forget the breakdown of spending:

More figures on government spending and debt:

This is equal to irresponsibility that we saw in TARP but incomparable in terms of severity, quantity, and excess. No wonder so many Americans feel that the stimulus failed. They’re right.
