The initial comment hits around the 1:27 mark in this ESPN interview. I’m a big fan of MMA and I’m a big fan of Lesnar who I think just gets ripped on by some sub par athletes who are jealous of his size – or by folks who don’t understand that MMA, because of mainstreaming and advertising revenue, is seeing an influx of athletes. Gone are the days of Tank Abbott. I’m getting away from the point: Lesnar rips the nationalized health care treatment he received in Canada.

More:

“Probably the lowest moment was getting care from Canada,” he said. “I hate to bash them, but … not to get on the political side of things, but our healthcare system is a little radical, but listen, we’ve got the best doctors in the world here. Our system does need some restructuring, but I don’t believe a total reform is the answer.

“They couldn’t do nothing for me,” Lesnar continued. “It was like I was in a third-world country. I just looked at my wife and she saved my life and I had to get out of here. I’m just stating the facts here, and that’s the facts. I love Canada. I own property in Canada, but if I had to choose between getting care in Canada or the United States, I’d definitely want to be in the United States.”

His wife (she can be Mrs. Brock Lesnar all she wants, I look at her and think nothing but SABLE) drove 100 mph to get him to a better facility.

And here’s the requisite blockhead Jim Rome who thinks that Lesnar’s own personal experience coupled with his differing opinion from the sports’ writer’s own makes Lesnar ill-suited to opine on health issues. Rome apparently thinks the proletariat should be disqualified from remarking upon issues of which they have knowledge, with which they’ve personal experience. If you think that such issues are velvet-roped off for the elite, then I say that’s a messed-up political perspective.

Yes, 10% unemployment, majority of Americans calling out the wasteful stimulus, a president that the majority wouldn’t vote for again if another election was held right now, yes, our government has a stellar track record on knowing better than the people who live their decisions.

Get real, Rome.

Heh. The ESPN blog:

There’s some mild hypocrisy here, since one could argue Rome himself has formulated opinions on subjects best left to others.
